How to apply
Please fill out the TSO audition application, which can be downloaded for free, and send it us with your own resume no later than 6:00 p.m. May 7th, 2012 (Japan time)

Resume screening will take place before preliminary audition, also during the auditions and after the auditions, no inquiry for the result, please.
Applicants need to prepare a accompanist for both Preliminary and Final round.
Excerpts will be supplied all applicants.

It is assumed that any applicants for this position will accept employment with the Tokyo Symphony, if it is offered. If you will not accept employment with the Tokyo Symphony, please do not participate in this audition process.
Recording audition for preliminary will not be accepted.
It is also assumed that applicants should coordinate your schedule for this audition schedule. Audition schedule will not be changed by any personal reason.
The Audition Committee of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra reserves the right to dismiss immediately any candidate not meeting the highest professional standards at these auditions.

Tokyo Symphony Orchestra


Founded in 1946, it has been leading the orchestral world ever since. Tokyo Symphony Orchestra (TSO) engages Music Director, Hubert SOUDANT, Laureate Conductor, Kazuyoshi AKIYAMA, Permanent Conductor, Naoto OTOMO, Resident Conductor, Norichika IIMORI and Guest Principal Conductor, Nicola Luisotti.

Currently, TSO has six international musicians from all over the world such as China, England, France, Russia, Sweden, and the United States.
Tokyo Symphony was recently given the highest rank in Japanese orchestras for "The World Orchestra Ranking 2008",
the annual feature of the "RECORD GEIJUTSU (Art of Record), a prestigious classical magazine considered to be the equivalent to Gramophone, lots of CD reviews, May 2008 issue.
TSO produces Subscription Concerts at Suntory Hall and Muza Kawasaki Symphony Hall, and Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall, in addition to opera and ballet performances at the New National Opera Theatre since its opening in 1997. TSO has put great energy into giving premiere performances of the works by Japanese composers as well as several major contemporary operas. In recognition of great achievements in contemporary music, TSO has won many music awards: the Mainichi Music Award, Minister of Education Award, Kyoto Music Award, Mainichi Art Award, Art Award of Cultural Agency, Mobile Music Award, Suntory Music Award.
Tokyo Symphony Orchestra agreed with the City of Kawasaki to become a resident orchestra to expand its concert activities 2002, and the TSO has taken rehearsals and concerts at Muza Kawasaki Symphony Hall since 2004.
In March 2009, Music Director Hubert Soudant and The Tokyo Symphony Orchestra won "the Best Concert Performance by Japanese Artist" at the 21st Music Pen Club Japan Awards which was given for the Schubert cycle during the 2008-09 season and the cycle was highly praised by numerous newspapers and magazines such as "the most ripened fruit in 2008", "exceptional well-balanced performance" by numerous newspapers and magazines.
The TSO's latest recordings include Bruckner's 8th Symphony, and Mozart's 29th & 39th symphonies, all conducted by Hubert Soudant. In addition, Bruckner's Symphony No.7,released in the fall of 2009 has been highly acclaimed and won the Best CD by Japanese Artist at the 22nd Music Pen Club Japan Awards. The TSO's latest recording, Schumann Complete Symphonies<Mahler edition> is released in fall, 2010.
